Why are there many Torii?


I reseached.
Inari kami"稲荷神" is god of rice and business.
Therefore, many business persons worship Inari for wealth.
That's I can see many "Torii"s dedicated by an individual business men and an enterprises.

"Torii"s column which their names and dedication date on it.
The custom to dedicate "Torii" started during the "Edo" period.
However, it seems there are many dedication it since "Heisei" period.

The Edo period (江戸時代 Edo jidai) is the period between 1603 and 1867 in the history of Japan.
Heisei (平成) is the current era in Japan. The Heisei era started on 8 January 1989.

By the way,
Why do they dedicate "Torii"?
The meaning "Torii" is mark of entrance of sacred place.
I will reserch to it sometime.
