前回のつづき。
Sequel to the last article.

彼女は言った。
She said.

「大国主はプレイボーイだったのよ。」
" O-kuni-nushi was playboy. "

俺は目を輝かせて聞いた。
I asked to her with own eyes shining.

「プレイボーイ…だと!?」
" Is he … a playboy!? "


「そう、大国主は最終的に6人の奥さんをもらったのよ。」
"yes. He eventually got six wives."

「わお!! そりゃすげえな！」
" Wao! It is amazing!! "

「その中には、スサノオの娘もいたのよ。」
"There is a daughter of Susano in them."

「スサノオ？　あのスサノオか!?」
"Susano? Is Susano? Isn't it? "

「そうよ。アマテラスの弟のスサノオよ。大国主は各地で恋愛をしてそれぞれの女性との間に子供もいたのよ。
" Yes. It is Susano, Amaterasu's young brother. O-kuni-nushi had romance with women in many contries, and He had children between each women.

彼は端正なマスクの持ち主で、温厚で優しい性格。
He was handsome, and his character was kind and a gentle person.

大国主がまだ若かった頃、大国主は彼の兄弟たちから嫌われていたわ。
When he was a young man,O-kuni-nushi was not liked by his brothers.

その当時、美しい姫が因幡というところにいたわ。彼女の名前は「ヤガミ」。
In those days, there was a beaurtiful princess in the place called Inaba. Her name was Yagami.

大国主の兄達は、因幡に行って彼らの一人を矢上姫の結婚相手に選んでもらおうと思い立ったの。
The O-kuni-nushi's brothers thought that they would go to Inaba, and one of them will be chosen to marry her.

兄弟たちは大国主に旅の準備をさせ、彼らの荷物を大国主に持たせて旅立ったわ。
They orldered O-kuni-nushi get ready, and O-kuni-nushi carried his bag and took him as their follower.



因幡に向かう途中、兄弟たちは毛をむしりとられてとても苦しそうな白いうさぎにあったの。
One the way to Inaba, the brothers met a white rabbit who was suffering terribly because his hair was pulled off.

兄弟たちは面白がってそのうさぎに嘘を教えたわ。塩水で身体を洗い、山の頂上で寝ていれば治るさ。と。
The brothers thought this was a comical situation, so they told the rabbit to wash it by salt water, and lie on top of a mountain to heal his self.

それで、そのうさぎは言われたとおりにしたわ。けれども、うさぎの皮はひび割れ、前よりもひどくなってしまったの。
So the rabbit did as he was told, and soon his skin was cracked and suffering more than before.

うさぎはひどい痛みに大粒の涙を流して泣いたわ。
The rabbit suffered a lot of pain, and threw hisself down crying.

遅れてやってきた大国主の目にこの光景がうつったわ。
This was the situation that met the eyes of O-kuni-nushi when he came along later.

大国主は何が起こったのか、うさぎにたずねたわ。
O-kuni-nushi asked him what had happened.

うさぎは答えたわ。
The rabbit answered,

「私は隠岐島(おきのしま)で暮らしていました。だけど…。」
" I had been living on Oki-no-shima island. But… "

「何！？　沖ノ島だと!?」
" What!? You said Oki-no-shima island !? "

俺は驚いてウドパーの話を遮った。
I suprised and I cut her telling story.

彼女は冷静に言った。
She said as calmly.

「宗像三女神の沖ノ島とは違うわよ。それとは違う島よ。漢字が違うわ。」
" It is not the same with the Munakata Three Godesses' island. It is totaly difference to the other island. It's name is difference to Kanji(Japanese ideograph, borrowed from Chinese) "

俺は苦笑いして答えた。
I answerd and I gave a bitter smile.

「そう言われても、英語圏の人間には 漢字は読めないぞ!!　英語で説明するのは難しい!!」
"Well, It is difficult for me to explain in English. Because English-speaking-people do not understand meaning, and they can't read the Kanji. "

「私が知ったこっちゃないわよ。自分でなんとかしなさいよ。」
" I don't care about it. So, suit your self. "

俺は少し考えて言った。
I thoght someting and then I said.

「つまり、その島は因幡という国にある隠岐島という名前の島で、沖ノ島とは何の関係もない全く違う場所にある島で、字も違うというわけだな。」
" That means, this island is located in Inaba province, and the name is Oki-no-shima island, this island is absolutery not concerned, absolutery difference location, and difference to Kanji. "

彼女は言った。
She said.

「漢字がどう違うのかが、わからないと思うわ。」
" I think that they do not understand what is difference Oki-no-shima and Oki-no-shima in Kanji. "

俺は答えた。
I answered.

「沖ノ島は沖ノ島と書く。隠岐島は隠岐島と書く。わかっていただけたかな? 英語圏の諸君。( ￣▽￣)ﾆﾔﾘ」
" Oki-no-shima is written in Kanji as 沖の島. Oki-no-shima is written in kanji as 隠岐島. English-speaking-people, Savvy? ( ￣▽￣)grin. "

彼女は聞いた。
She asked to me.

「誰に言ってるのよ?(^_^;)　ところで ' Savvy? ' って何よ。それを言うなら　' Did you understand? '　でしょ?」
" Who have you told to? Well, it's ok. By the way, what is ' Savvy '? You mean ' Did you understand? ' instead of ' Savvy? '"

俺は答えた。
I answered.

「' Savvy? ' は、17世紀の海賊黄金時代から、西インド諸島のpidgin English（混成英語）として使われている言葉だ。フランス語の“Savez vous?”、またはスペイン語の“Sabe (ustedあなた)?”（いずれも“Do you know？”の意味）から来ている。キャプテン・ジャック・スパロウの口癖だ。…Savvy?」
" ' Savvy? ' has been use with pidgin English of West India Islands since Golden Piracy Era with 17th century. The origin of this word is ' Savez vous? ' with French or 'Sabe (usted)' with Spanish. It is Captain Jack Sparrow's favorite phrase. …Savvy? "

彼女は答えた。
She answered.

「わかったわ(^-^)」
" Savvy.(^-^) "

「よし!(´∀｀)」
" Good ! (´∀｀) "

「ところでキャプテン・ジャック…なんちゃらって何よ?」
" By the way, Who is Captain Jack …blah blah? "

「キャプテン・ジャック・スパロウだ! その昔、彼は貿易船で働いていた。ところがある日…。」
" Captain Jack Sparrow !! One's upon a time, he worked in a tading ship. But, one day…."

「その話はまたそのうちにね。話が脱線しちゃったわね。話を戻しましょ。」
" Hey! you! Ok, let's talk again this story in someday. We're off track. So let's get back on track. "

彼女に話を遮られた。(^_^;)
My story telling was cut by her.

彼女は話を再開した。
She got back to O-kuni-nushi's story.

「うさぎは大国主に話始めたわ。
" The rabbit began to speak O-kuni-nushi.

私はずっと隠岐島に住んでいて、ヤガミ姫に会いたいと思っていました。
' I had been living on Oki-no-shima隠岐島 island and I wanted to see the princess Yagami.

だけど、私は海を泳ぐことができません。
But I can't swim in the sea.

だから　私はサメを騙したのです。
So I cheated a shark.

私は、うさぎの種族とサメの種族ではどちらが数が多いか知りたいから数えてみないか？　とサメに言いました。
Telling him that I would like to know which species was more numerous, his or mine, by counting his.

そして私はサメに、私の種族はサメの種族と同じくらい多いぞ、と言い、彼らを島から稲葉の海岸まで並ばぶように言いました。
Then I told the shark to take as many sharks as possible, make them line up from the island to the shore of Inaba.

そして私はサメに、私がサメの一列になったサメの上を歩いて数え、素早く水を渡ることによってどちらの種族が数が多いのかがわかるだろうと言いました。
And I said that I would walk across this line of sharks, count their number, and thus quickly cross the water, and that in this way we would know which species was greater in number.

サメは騙され一列に並び、私は歩きながら彼らの数を数えていきました。
The shark was deceived, and while they were all line up, I walked across and counted them.

あともう少しで陸に着きそうなとき、私はサメたちに彼らが騙されていたことを話しました。
When I was just about to reach land, I told them that they had been deceived.

誘惑を抑えることができずに、お前たちは本当に大馬鹿者だ！と彼らを笑い、騙していたことを話してしまったのです。
Unable to resist the temptation, I laughingly told the shark that I had tricked them, and they were really foolish!

サメたちはそれを知り、怒って私が逃げる前に私を捕まえて、私の毛を全て剥がしてしまったのです。
The shark were understandably shocked and angered at my trick, and before I could escape, they caught me and stripped off all my fur.'


大国主はうさぎに言ったわ。
O-kuni-nushi said to the rabbit,

「すぐにこの川の河口に行き、真水であなたの身体を洗い、河口に生えてるガマの花粉を辺りに撒きなさい。
' Go to the mouth of this river at once, wash yourself with fresh water, pick pollen from bulrushes of the river mouth and sprinkle it around.

それからその上で寝転がっていれば、あなたはすっかり良くなりますよ(^-^)
Then lie down upon it, and you will surely recover fully.(^-^) '

うさぎが彼の言うとおりにすると、うさぎの毛はすっかり元に戻ったわ。
The rabbit did as it was told, and its fur was fully restored.






うさぎは大国主に大変感謝し、大国主の兄たちがヤガミ姫の心を射止めることはない、だけどヤガミ姫は大国主を夫として選ぶでしょう。と彼に伝えたわ。
The rabbit was so grateful to O-kuni-nushi that he told him his brothers would never win the hand of the Princess Yagami, but she would choose O-kuni-nushi to be her husband.

そしてうさぎが言ったことは本当になり、大国主はヤガミ姫と結婚したのよ。
This happened as the rabbit had said, and O-kuni-nushi married the Princess Yagami. "

俺は言った。
I said.

「ふーん。まあ、大国主が優しい男だったことはわかったが、まあ、アドバイスしただけだろ？」
"I see. Well, I understand that O-kuni-nushi was gentleman, but he just only gave an advice to rabbit . Do you think so?"

「まあ、そう言えばそうね(^_^;)　でも、彼の治療のアドバイスは的確だったわ。なぜなら蒲の花粉は傷薬になるからよ。彼は医学の知識を持ち合わせていたのよ。」
" Well, now that you say it, I think you're right. But his therapeutic advice was thorough. Because pollen of bulrushes for medical ointment. He had knowledge of medicine. "






「なるほど。」
"I see."

「で、ヤガミ姫が一番目の奥さんとなるわけよ。で、その後、彼は2回死ぬんだけど…。」
" Therefore, Princess Yagami became first wife of him, and then he died for two times… "

「え!? 死ぬの!?」
" What!? Did he died !? Two times !?"
